When you begin playing you have two character types to choose from:
Humans: The survivors of the revolt on Echidna island. Their primary goal is to escape. Some are civilized, while others (the cause of this mess) are brutal and willing to do anything to get out. The Human Classes board shows you every available human class as well as the chance to create a new human class.
Cryptids: Monsters that once inhabited every corner of the globe. Some are passive and avoid contact, while others are aggressive and savage. The Cryptid Classes board gives you every available species of cryptid, as well as the oppurtunity to suggest a new one.
Aliens: UFOs and the like. They are not currently involved in the game, but will eventually be phased in once a good amount of cryptids and humans join. Their motives are unclear, and it is currently under debate whether one or more races will be involved. The Alien Classes board will show every available alien species as well as allow suggestions for new aliens.
From here it is up to you. If you choose to play as a cryptid, you have the choice of basing your monster after a real cryptozoological animal or making one of your own.
From time to time one of the mods will put your characters (or team, depending on whether you play solo or with other people) in a life or death situation. In such a case you must write your character's reaction in an open ended post. Depending on your writing and story telling prowess your character will either live or die. Do not worry, if your character dies you will be allowed to make another.
You level up when you get to a certain post count or when a mod allows you to. Character levels are very important in this game. Here is what happens at certain levels:
Level One: Hoax: You may have two human characters and a cryptid character. You can go into the Nemean Lion and Chimera Zones.
Level Two: Strange Occurence- You may add one cryptid or human character to your character arsenal. You may go to Mt. Echidna, Mt. Typhon, and the Landon Zone.
Level Three: Mysterious Beast- You may add another cryptid or human to your arsenal. You may go to the Sphinx Zone.
Level Four: Cryptid- you may add two new characters to your arsenal, but only one may be a cryptid. You may enter Hydra Zone.
Level Five: Monster- You may add three new characters or (when they get introduced) an Alien to your character arsenal. You may enter Cerberus Zone.
Level Six: Famous Monster- You may add one mod god (invincble character) to your arsenal as well as two humans and /or cryptids and one alien (when they get involved).
Level Seven: Monster of Folklore- You may add two more mod gods to your arsenal as well as four human or cryptid characters and two aliens.
Level Eight: Legendary beast- you may have three new mod gods, six more cryptid or human characters, and three more aliens, as well as enter Lab X.
Level Nine: Creator- You may have as many characters as you like. Correction, I may have as many characters as I like. BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA okay enough being a dick.
