Dr.Guirus sat on the sands of the enormous lagoon that was the landon zone, scribbling something in his notes. It was all he had to do anymore. He missed his coworkers, his family, his posessions.
It had been days since the walls had come down and thrust the doctor into the land of monsters. Now his only recreation was recording observations hemade.
The doctor's area of expertise being aquatic cryptids, he set up camp near the lagoon.
He knew the place well, as he had studied it back when he was still in a nice, safe lab. There were times when he doubyed this was such a good idea. The threat of landgoing white river monsters was ever present. The mamlambos also lived there and all too often came ashore to stalk prey in the pit. Fortunately this region was marked as the territory of a certain chupacabra. Aguaspina was the owner of this section of lagoon. The chupacabra was clearly uncomfortable with a human in her territory...she had only encountered humans on 2 occasions, one being when she was captured and placed on the island. The other was when she first made herself known to humanity. She had attacked a farm in Puerto Rico and managed to bring down 2 bulls before the farmer shot her several times. Her juvenile hide was unable to protect her for very long and she was severely wounded. the wounds in her side may have healed and adulthood may have given her a thickened plate of armor but that didn't keep her from becoming terrified of humans. Every time she wandered into camp she stared intensely at Dr.Guirus.
The creature was clearly uncertain as what to think of him. he hadn't attacked her...yet but she was still cautious. She had no idea that the doctor was incapable of harming her.
Many a night the doctor lay awake, wondering if this would be the night that Aguaspina would put an end to a potential threat.
He looked over his shoulder to see her wander into the sands of the beach. She looked over at him back, the fleshy membrane between her spines taking on a distinct yellow tone. He had observed this before, every time she saw him her spines would turn yellow. Dr.Guirus had taken note of the different colors her spines turned depending on her mood. They would turn black when she was angry, red or pink when confused, blue or green when content, grey green when upset and yellow when alarmed or afraid.
It was a lose lose situation. If the doctor did nothing then the chupacabra's fear may eventually drive her to get rid of him but if she was shot she would realize that humans were generaly incapable of hurting her and begin to see them as a food source. The doctor could not have that...
Dr.Guirus had learned a great deal while there. He had only recently learned that the species was ambhibious. He also took note of the way she moved. usually she would walk in a simian manner, on all fours with her back legs bent. when she ran, however, she would hold her tail out straight and lean forward in a horizontal position like a theropod dinosaur. When excited she would rear upright on her hinds legs like a human.
He had also noted a great deal of intelligence she displayed. He would never forget the time a white river monster had chased Aguaspina out of the water. Rather than face the monster head on she went deep into the forest, rallied up a small pack of chupacabras and started harassing a herd of mokele mbembe. They managed to cause a stampede and chased those dinosaurs right through the lagoon. The cetacean was trampled underfoot beneath their weight. Whether or not it survived had eluded the scientist.
shortly after, the chupacabra pack broke up and Aguaspina remained solitary.
the doctor looked over again to see Aguaspina leaving. She preferred the jungle where she could be alone, over the beach where she was constantly observed.
Dr.Guirus scribbled in his notes more. Each day he prayed for some miracle that would get him out of this acursed land...
